Screening and Q&A with Jack Bond
1pm, Saturday 17th Oct 09 at the Filmhouse, Edinburgh
Our film season at the Filmhouse in Edinburgh explores the representation of women’s mental health since the golden age of Hollywood through the work of pioneering British based actor, writer and director Jane Arden.
A screening of Separation (1pm, Sat 17th), a provocative and challenging account of one woman’s inner struggle written by and starring Arden will be followed by a Q&A with British director Jack Bond; Arden’s long-term creative collaborator.
Jack Bond is most well known for his creative partnership with Arden between 1965 and 1979; Separation being Bond’s debut feature film in 1967. Bond went on to produce Arden’s violent and powerful adaptation of her work with the Holocaust women’s theatre troupe in The Other Side of the Underneath in 1972 (also screening at the Filmhouse as part of the Festival, 1pm, Sun 18th) followed by Anti Clock which opened the 1979 London Film Festival.
Bond has had a distinctly colourful career with wildly imaginative feature films including It Couldn’t Happen Here (1988) featuring The Pet Shop Boys as well as the music video for their single Heart. Early in his career he secured a job on Melvyn Bragg’s arts magazine programme New Release, for which he made documentaries on, amongst others, George Orwell and Salvador Dali.
